- This is an rtf file. Fae Character Survey - use this file if you are a fairy character.
Places to do research
|
Instructions:
This is an exercise. It tells us nothing if you refuse to answer the question for whatever good reason you think your character has, so answer ALL the questions. I will send back surveys that have less than sufficient answers with a detailed analysis of what we need. Yes, there is some repetition in the questions, this is to make you think about things in different ways. |

Webmaster's notes:
|
You will also find the form below with comments and questions and websites I've found for you to do research. | |
|
I know I said not to use fancy
formatting, please DO use punctuation
and proper rules of English. I spend a LOT of time correcting i
to I and inserting punctuation. I know we're not supposed to
be particularly lliterate, but some editing would be good before you
send this to me. If it's too bad, I will send it back for
corrections. |
Updates:
|
Your answers will change as the year goes by and your character grows and develops. If you want to resubmit your survey, please feel free to do so. |
Your Real Name:
Your email address:
Do you have a favorite character picture you'd like me to use? Send it to me at rneeoatyahoo.com.
If it's online, send me the address (URL) where it's located. As much as I wish I could, I don't have time to go searching for each and every picture. Also, if it's not on my website I can't guarantee I can use it, but I'll do my best.
If you do request a specific picture make sure it's not copyright protected so I can use it. If I don't end up using one you've requested, this is probably why.First Person Survey for:
This is your character's name. If your character hasn't already been given a name, then the first thing you have to do is to decide what you want your name to be. Remember, many times a person's name would reflect their trade or status. The baker would be known as Baker and a barrel maker would be called Cooper. Some more help:
Faire names for English Folke
Character Name Generator - for D&D and RPG's, but still a fun name, and useful if you just can't decide yourself.Name Given at Birth (Is this different from your character's name?):
Nicknames (What would your friend and intimates call you?)
Hometown or where you were born (Unless you're a visitor, this is most likely Canterbury):
Tudor England - a map of Tudor EnglandCurrent Residence:
Age:
Class:
Consult the chain of life to find out what class you are. What do you do, your main function in life/society:
Have you ever gone skinny-dipping / do you know how to swim:
Remember the prevailing view of water during this period before you answer this question. Not many people knew how to swim, not even sailors or pirates. Also remember that Canterbury is landlocked.Do you make fun of people:
It is a very mannered and polite time. Everyone is armed. So, it might be funny to say you do, but would your character?Favorite Color And why? Don't just answer the question, tell us your characters reason for that answer.
Have you ever committed or been convicted of a crime.
Don't be clever. You can answer as your character and hedge, but it must give us a definitive answer.Closest friends/How did you meet:
Look at the cast list and decide who among the cast would be your friends and tell us all the details of your friendship. One Pillow or two -

It's a very musical time, music is everywhere from gypsy violins to the psalms sung at mass.Hobbies/Pastimes -
Most people aren't going to have much time. Also remember that not many people are going to have time for such things as reading or writing (not that many people could read or write) Even if you can read and write, you're not going to spend the evening beside the fire reading because books as we know them do not exist. If you're reading anything, it's probably the Bible if you're fortunate enough to own one.Personal Hygiene -
Remember the prevailing feeling about water when answering this question, and about cleanliness in general.:
(Note – Your character may only bath once a year but you, as a professional performer, shampoo and shower everyday. We are not that much in character.)Favorite Food -
This can be whatever. It doesn't have to be whatever your character can afford. Maybe it's a delicacy you only get during the harvest faire.: Food - foods you might have eatenAre your parents alive, do you get along with them:
Your parents control where you fall in the chain of life. They will decide whom you marry and generally set your course in life.If your parents are dead, when and how did they die:
Life expectancy is short. 40 years is considered pretty old in this period, although if you're in the court you can expect to live longer. If you're very old at all (over 20?) your parents are probably dead.Favorite place to relax -
Most characters aren't going to be able to go far, but think about Canterbury and where you (as your character) might go to get away from it all.Favorite Holy Day / Why -
Give details about why it's your favorite.: Saints and Angels - Feastday ListFavorite Drink -
Again, it doesn't have to be something you drink everyday, maybe it's just something you've heard about and always wanted to try. What's your bedtime?
Unless you're royal, you don't have the money to waste on candles, and your clock (internal, there are no clocks as we know them today) is set by the rising and the setting of the sun. What, if anything, do you usually wear on your feet?
You put your wealth in your feet and will wear the best that you can afford. Don't just put shoes. Think about it.:Are you married or single?
Married or single, it's a simple question. But elaborate. If you're single, are you looking? If you're married, are you happy?Do you have a family / who are they?
Know who your family is, even if you have to make them up.Favorite Entertainment:
Yes, the time period is pretty grim if you're a peasant or lower class, but they still found time to play.

Most people didn't get to go to school,
but what was the favorite chore or thing you did as you were growing up? :Least Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up?
Again, most people didn't go to school, but everyone would have had daily chores they were responsible for. What did you dread doing?Favorite Sport (to do):

and How Do You Feel about that person:
This person usually has the power of life and death over you, or at least making sure you eat that day.Favorite Sport to watch:
Do you remember your first kiss?
While yes, many ladies wouldn't divulge such details, and maybe even a few gentlemen, that's not what we want here. Keep it in character, but enquiring minds want to know.Do you keep in touch with your childhood friends?
Keep in mind that many of you haven't ever moved in your lives. If you keep in touch, how do you do that?Where is your favorite "Vacation" spot?
Many people wouldn't have taken a vacation or even knew what a vacation was. But what do you do to relax and refresh?Have you ever been overseas:
