Chris Seymour

Chris SeymourNicknames: Nightingale. This name was bestowed upon me by His Majesty King Henry VIII

Hometown or where you were born: Dover, England

Current Residence: The Royal Court in London, England. However I travel wherever His

Majesty is traveling with his court.

Age: 16

Class: Nobility

What do you do, your main function in life/society: My main function in society is to serve as a

Royal Page to His Majesty at all times. My cousin, Jane Seymour, presented me before His Majesty for my first time, and he remembered me from a time in his Royal Stables. I had been singing to the horses when a man came in and heard me singing. This man found favor with my voice, and bade me farewell without letting me know who he was. It was not until I was presented before the King that I realized twas His Majesty who had heard me.

Have you ever gone skinny-dipping / do you know how to swim: Although it is now believed that bathing could kill a person, I abided by the sea with my father and mother, and thus learned to swim. Oft I would swim along the coast, though once in awhile I would venture out. When papa heard of this he forbade me from ever going out to swim again. But I found a secret way out of the house, and by night I would swim by the moonlight. It is by a miracle I have not been taken with illness.

Do you make fun of people: There is only one people I would make fun of, and that my friend, is

the French. They are a cravenly, grisled, bootless lot and are a disgrace to His Majesty.

Favorite Color: My Favorite color is deep blue. When I abided by the sea, I would stare for hours wondering how many shades of blue were in that sea. I found myself mesmerized, however,

by the deeper shades that dwelt far from the coast. Twas my main reason for learning to swim in the first place.

Have you ever committed or been convicted of a crime: When I was younger, two of my childhood friends dared me to go to a neighboring farm and steal a chicken egg, then throw it on their doorstep. Well, I could not say nay to a dare, so I deftly marched straight into the chicken

coop. As I was about to grab an egg, one of the mother hens woke up and pecked at my hand. Startled, I swung back my hand, knocking o’er the basket and three others, spilling all the eggs. Covered in yoke, I ran from the coop, quickly followed by my waiting friends. When my father saw my clothes the next morning he did not beat me. Alack, he made me apologize to the neighbors, and of course, clean up the mess and other chores. Took me a whole month! Taught me n’er to steal again.

Closest friends/How did you meet: One of my closest friends is Gabriel. Their family live across our fields and in a neighboring valley. We met while I was out riding my horse one day. Gabriel was also out riding and after we met we just got along great. We both loved horses, and so many of our other likes were very similar. To this day we are still the best of friends, and I visit when I can.

One Pillow or two: Since I am page to His Majesty, I must be ready at all hours. Sometimes I

do not have much of a chance to sleep, but for the most part I have a nice, small, blue pillow, made

from goose feathers. Twas a gift from His Majesty, I will n’er let it pass from my own hand.

Pets: I do not possess a pet. However, during a visit to see my cousin, Jane Seymour, I visited His

Majesty’s Royal Stables. There were many horses, but only one was pure black. He was huge and I thought him perfect in every way. I was, at night, even able to sneak back into the stable and ride him for a bit. No one caught me, thank God, for then I did not realize the seriousness of my actions.

Favorite Type of Music: Anything played with the harpsichord, although I love all music.

Hobbies/Pastimes: Before I became a page, I had a lot of free time. I would climb the trees of

Canterbury, or swim off the coast of Dover. I also love to sing, and when I can I draw as well. These are the only pastimes now because I am so busy.

Personal Hygiene: I ignored what people thought about bathing as a child, and I survived.

Although being page to His Majesty is a different matter entirely. His Majesty does not like foul musk and uncleanliness, so I bath as oft as I can. This I gladly do.

Favorite Food: My favorite food when I am on the coast is seafood, of which I love most is

shrimp. My favorite here is venison with honey glazed all over it, which I can only have when I am at court in London.

Are your parents alive, do you get along with them: My father is Lord Joshua Seymour III, and my mother is Esther Seymour. I love them both and I do get along with them very well. However my father has set up a marriage for me that I do not want.

If your parents are dead, when and how did they die: By the grace of the God my parents are still living.

Favorite place to relax: My favorite place to relax use to be by the ocean coast. Now however, I find myself drawn to the Royal Stables or in the pastures alone with the horses.

Favorite Holy Day / Why: Yule, because it is the one time of the year His Majesty allows me to

leave his side, so I can go home to Dover.

Favorite Drink: I really like the honey wine that is served at court.

What's your bedtime: My bedtime would be when His Majesty goes to sleep. I am up at all hours, because His Majesty might need something during the middle of the night.

What, if anything, do you usually wear on your feet: I am quite fortunate that His Majesty does provide for my foot wear, primarily slippers, but because I ride with His Majesty I have been gifted with a pair of boots!

Are you married or single: Single, however I am betrothed. We have never met, and I am hoping to keep it that way.

Do you have a family / who are they: My immediate family is my father Lord Joshua Seymour III; my mother Lady Esther Seymour; my two brothers Jacob Seymour and Joshua Seymour IV.

Favorite Entertainment: When His Majesty goes hunting, I am allowed to go with him. I love the thrill of riding, although I have to be as silent as a mouse so that I do not scare away the game.

Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up: My favorite subject is chorus. I sing in the choir at church. I love singing the hymns and hearing praise when I do something marvelous with my voice. I love even more hearing advice to better strengthen my voice.

Least Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up: My least favorite subject was arithmetic. I hated numbers and still do. The tutor would yell at me a lot because I did not get the problem correct and then he would not help me correct my mistakes.

Favorite Sport: Fencing and horseback riding.

Most Humiliating Moment: My most humiliating moment happened in Canterbury. I had not yet been given my position as a page yet and I was only 8, but I had my dignity to think of. I was on a horse, just a common wagon puller, when he started to gallop I looked back and saw one of my friends holding a needle used for sewing! The horse was out of control, trying to buck me off, but I held on, getting very scared. The horse was coming to a cliff edge and I did not want to go over the edge so I jumped, but my foot was caught in the stirrup. I tried to free myself but was not tall enough to reach the stirrup. So here I am, hanging by the foot of a stirrup on a rather insanely mad horse, who is heading for a cliff, and my friends are standing there laughing. But wait the agony does not end there, because as the horse is abruptly stopping before running off the edge of the cliff, I go flying sideways and land in a pile of swamp mud. It was humiliating after boasting I was the best rider in Canterbury.

Proudest Moment: My proudest moment also happened in Canterbury. I had been 7 at the time and been told I could sing like a bird. Well I was off to visit my friends when I decided to see the stables. I was in the stables petting Knight, the black horse I had named, and singing one of my favorite songs with the best of my ability, when a man came in. I did not notice him at all so I just continued to sing, and he stood there listening. When I finished my song, the man started to clap and I quickly whipped around, a little shocked that someone had heard me singing. The man told me I had the voice of a nightingale and I smiled at that. The man was taller than me with a tiny beard and a funny smile, but he was quite handsome and nice, so I gave to my best ability, a reverance and a thank you. He smiled and then withdrew from the stables. It was not until a couple months later I found out it had been the king.

Craziest Person or silliest you know: I was walking through the woods alone in Canterbury when I was very young. I came across a bush that was glowing and shaking, which was very strange. I went to look closer and a very small man with strange ears jumped out. I should have been afraid but I was not at all. He was smiling a huge grin and then he started to dance around the little bush. He was so funny looking. He danced and jumped and did some acrobats that were just amazing. He even sang a crazy little tune. He would say a couple words that I really could not understand. Then he would smile and wave and then it would seem he just disappeared, or at least I just didn’t seem to see him leave. It was very strange, but he was funny. I saw him off and on for a few years and then I came to court.

What do you look for in the opposite sex: I look for a pretty face and a lot of character in the opposite sex.

In our Hierarchical Society everybody has somebody "over" them, Who is your immediate "overlord": His Majesty King Henry VIII.

Favorite Sport to watch: Jousting and fencing, and if there are any other horse events.

Do you remember your first kiss: My first kiss happened a little unexpectedly. I was running around with a couple of my friends around the coast. We were on the top where there is a small cliff edge where you could fall down onto the sand from. Well two of my friends got into a fight and started pushing and shoving and then one went over. I was quick and got to my friend before they went over all the way and I grabbed their hand. Pulling them to safety my friend grabbed me and kissed me out of thanks. It was quite childlike.

Do you keep in touch with your childhood friends: I see my friends in Dover once a year during

Yule. My Canterbury friends I see whenever I have time, which I do not have a lot of.

Where is your favorite "Vacation" spot: One of my favorite is Cambridge. When the king goes there I get to see many magnificent and beautiful horses.

Have you ever been overseas: No, although I have been to the coast I have never traveled overseas.

Do you have Dirt/Mud floors or Stone: Stone, I live in the palace with the King.

What is your bed made of: I do not have a bed, I sleep in a cupboard outside the King’s room.

How many people sleep in your bed: I do not have a bed, but if I did I think it would just be me.
