Ashling Chandler
Name Given at Birth: Ashling Chandler
Nicknames: Bob
Hometown or where you were born: Isle of Man, Ireland
Current Residence: Canterbury
Age: I am five thousand, four hundred seventy five days old
Class: I am in the middle class
What do you do, your main function in life/society: I make and sell the finest candles in all the lands.
Have you ever gone skinny-dipping / do you know how to swim: Growing up on an island, I could play in the water whenever I wanted, but I do not know how to swim. We would always be playing in the water. We also used the ocean to bathe. I use water when we cool the candles we have made, so water is an important part of my life.
Do you make fun of people: I love to joke with my mated, but I will not make fun of anyone unless they are doing something quite senseless. Sometimes people need to be made fun of, a healthy dose of reality is important, and everybody loves to laugh, whether they admit it or not.
Favorite Color And why? Green. It reminds me of the plants that grow in the spring. It is such a gorgeous colour.
Have you ever committed or been convicted of a crime. Nay, I have gotten into quarrels with the townsfolk I do not get along with, and they have accused me of wrong-doings, but never crimes.
Closest friends/How did you meet: Squire Rat is my closest friend. I met him through my adopted mother, the Witch of Canterbury, when his horse hurt itself. My mum gave him a special remedy and the horse was saved. We have been close ever since.
One Pillow or two : One pillow (plus two more I got from a lady-in-waiting in exchange for candles)
Pets - I have a pet rock. It is blue and shiny. I keep it with me at all times, in a special cage so it doesn’t get lost. I also have a fox tail from my father when he went hunting once. It is white and very soft.
Favorite Type of Music: I love singing, and the strong beat of the drums. A good, strong beat is important for all music. And I adore bells!
Hobbies/Pastimes - when I have free time, I sleep. When I am not sleeping during my free time, I can be found with my friends, talking and playing.
Personal Hygiene - Back on the Isle of Man, I bathed once a week, but in Canterbury I am not always that lucky.
Favorite Food - I love potatoes! They are most wonderful. I love most food. And eating. I am constantly hungry. People say I eat too much, but I do not care.
Are your parents alive, do you get along with them: I have not seen my birth parents since I was eight years old. I loved them very much. But I also love my mum very much. She raised me well.
If your parents are dead, when and how did they die: if they are truly dead, they probably died from old age. They were very careful about their health.
Favorite place to relax – Bridges. I love watching the water. It is so peaceful and calming. Or the Blacksmiths shop. The fire calms me.
Favorite Holy Day / Why - Thursdays. It is the day I was brought to this earth, so I hold it very dear.
Favorite Drink - for me, it does not get much better than good, clean water. But dew of the mountain is delicious too!
What's your bedtime? My bedtime is usually very late in the night, once the stars have come out.
What, if anything, do you usually wear on your feet? I have strong leather shoes, but they have definitely seen better days. I am saving up to buy some sturdy boots.
Are you married or single? I am single, and yes, looking. The man I was betrothed to died in a hunting accident.
Do you have a family / who are they? My entire family, save for my mum is back on the Isle of Man. I miss them very much.
Favorite Entertainment: singing. Everyone loves some form of music, and I love to sing. I also like to watch the people of Canterbury interacting with one another.
Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up? I loved helping the farmer gather the chicken eggs. Sometimes he would let me take some back home for breakfast.
Least Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up? Holding the wick in place so it did not warp in the holder. If it warps, then the candle will not burn for the right amount of time. Just thinking about it makes me cringe!
Favorite Sport (to do): I like to play football. It is a very intense and exciting game when you get a group going. Most people wouldn’t think kicking a leather ball around is fun, but you would be surprised.
Most Humiliating Moment? Once, when I was young, I tipped over a vat of wax all over the floor. My father was not pleased at all. Also, the tailor was helping me with a rather large order once, and I accidentally burnt him with the wax, I felt so bad about it.
Proudest Moment? The day I learned to tie laces was the best ever, you can not get anything done in life without being able to tie a bow.
Craziest Person or silliest you know: The one named Dustbin is pretty silly. I saw him rolling in a mud puddle once. Very strange, that one. And I saw a woman sleeping once, then she jumped up, screamed, and ran away, very silly, I must say.
What do you look for in the opposite sex: I am looking for someone who is strong, and can take care of me. He needs to make me laugh as well.
In our Hierarchical Society everybody has somebody "over" them. Who is your immediate "overlord"? and How Do You Feel about that person: the guild master and his family are over me. They are fantastic people, very kind.
Favorite Sport to watch: I enjoy watching the court dances. I believe dancing to be a great sport.
Do you remember your first kiss? My first kiss was back home on the Isle of Man, at sunset.
Do you keep in touch with your childhood friends? I do not keep in touch with anyone from my childhood except for my uncle. I write to him four times a month.
Where is your favorite "Vacation" spot? I once traveled to the Faroe Islands with my father. The climate was wonderful, and the plants and animals were like nothing I have ever seen before, the water was very chilly though.
Have you ever been overseas: Aye, to come to Canterbury I had to be on a boat for thirty five days. Being on the water was a great experience. I family had caught the flu, and the crew all caught it. Many people got very ill, but luck was on our side and no one died. I would recommend everyone to travel overseas at least once. You will learn so much and meet so many new people.
Do you have Dirt/Mud floors or Stone: the floors in my home are made of wood.
What is your bed made of: My bed is made of wood as well. And blankets and pillows.
How many people sleep in your bed: I do not share my bed with anyone. I have a chair that I allow visitors to relax in.
