Robert Devereux
Name Given at Birth : Robert Devereux
Nicknames: Robby
Hometown or where you were born: Netherwood, Cumbria
Current Residence: On progress to Hampton Court Place
Age: 21
Class: Nobility
What do you do, your main function in life/society: To remember that I am here to entertain the queen, not my mother and to push Sir Walter out of favor with the queen.
Have you ever gone skinny-dipping / do you know how to swim: I do indeed know how to swim, Tis one of the many things that I learned while living on my father’s estate in Wales. As for skinny-dipping, I think it highly inappropriate for a gentlemen to speak of such thinks!
Do you make fun of people: I enjoy poking holes in the sometimes… well.. "Inflated" egos of the other gentlemen I keep company with in the court.
Favorite Color And why? Burgundy. Most of my clothing is somewhere around this color. My mother wears a beautiful red dress that she ADORES, and the way I see it, Burgundy is a close enough color to her own that It shows respect and my relation to her.
Have you ever committed or been convicted of a crime. HA! Hardly! I would never steep down to such a lowly level. Especially when so much I need is already luxuriously provided for me.
Closest friends/How did you meet: I suppose I can consider Sir Walter and Sir John my friends…
But I would much rather spend my time the young knights and other younger members of the court, They’re So much more lively. I’m also very close to my family in the court, my mother and my sister Dorothy
One Pillow or two - I’ve never actually taken the time to count my pillow’s, there are many other things that I can think that could really use my attention first. If I had to guess though, probably around 10.
Pets - I do have a favorite horse. I very much enjoyed riding him around the country side back on my father‘s estate. I swear that it’s the fastest beast on four feet in ALL of Wales!
Favorite Type of Music: I very much enjoy the music of the court. It offer’s me an excellent opportunity to display my exquisite dancing abilities.
Hobbies/Pastimes - When I am not with the queen and I am away from my courtly duties my favorite pastime is hunting, though my sisters do sometimes protest when I go after hares. Also, enjoy playing and learning any type of cards. I love a good game of Triumph.
Personal Hygiene - I make it a point to bath as often is as needed to avoid scents that the queen and other members of the court would consider… unpleasant. I also make sure to wear the fine oils that I have obtain on our travels across the land. It’s most distracting when you’re trying to have a conversation and you have to watch the other person wrinkle their nose in the air.
Favorite Food - Roast Goose, Its one of my favorite reasons for coming to the harvest festival in Canterbury. Every year they stuff a goose with piles of delicious herbs and spices and cook it to a beautiful golden color. I swear, each time the goose seems bigger then the one the year before!
Are your parents alive, do you get along with them: My Father passed away sometime ago, but my mother, Lady Lettice Knollys is still very much alive. I do love her very much, for it is through her grace, skills, and intelligence that myself and my brother and sisters have come to have such luxurious, wonderful and happy lives.
If your parents are dead, when and how did they die: My father, Walter Devereux, died when he was 35. He accepted the position of Earl Marshal of Ireland from the queen and three weeks after arriving in Dublin he died of illness.
Favorite place to relax - Do you really need to ask? My favorite place to relax is of course at the right hand of the queen.
Favorite Holy Day / Why - My favorite Holy Day is Michaelmas. It marks the beginning of Autumn and involves plenty of food and merriment! It also involves that Stuffed Goose I mentioned earlier!
Favorite Drink - Sweet Wines. If for only the reason that the Queen herself has given me a royal monopoly on them. All money from the taxes collected on them comes to me.
What's your bedtime? My bedtime varies from day to day. If we ride early the next morning, then it might be sooner. If we are staying in a town, then I might stay up with other members of the court playing games and enjoying ourselves till the wee hours of the morning.
What, if anything, do you usually wear on your feet? A good pair of riding boots. You never know when you’ll need a good pair of sturdy shoes, that’s one of my personal mottos.
Are you married or single? Haha… Quite single.
Do you have a family / who are they? My mother and all of my siblings, most of whom stay back at my father’s estate, though sometimes Dorothy does come visit mother and I at court.
Favorite Entertainment: I have been to many bear-baitings, and I would be lying if I said that I did not enjoy them on some level. It is as if one is watching man over come nature itself!
Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up? While I attended Trinity College in Cambridge all of my favorite subjects had to do with military strategy and with learning ins and outs of controlling your forces.
Least Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up? I had little interest in learning the history of the royal court though. I prefer fresh living faces that mean something to old names written in books.
Favorite Sport (to do):
Most Humiliating Moment? The first time my mother put me on the spot and all but ordered me to woo a girl during a feast when I was much younger. Of COURSE my experience in these kinds of matter’s have greatly improved sense then, but at that time I had yet to perfect a strategy to deal with women and I feel very much flat on my face.
Proudest Moment? The day the Queen herself bestowed upon me the title of the Earl of Essex. It was one of single greatest honors I have ever received and I know that had my father been alive to see it, he would have been very proud.
Craziest Person or silliest you know: HA! Simply pick ANY name at random from the Vulgarian Court and you have your answer.

In our Hierarchical Society everybody has somebody "over" them. Who is your immediate "overlord"? and How Do You Feel about that person: The Queen of England, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. She is a magnificent person, very kind with a beautiful soul and though she is regal and holds the rules of the court close to her heart she still knows how to enjoy herself and have a good time.
Favorite Sport to watch: I love to watch Hawking. The speed at which the birds travel is quite amazing!
Do you remember your first kiss? Indeed! Actually, I have already mentioned it’s receiver! It was the very same girl that my mother had demanded that I court whom which I embarrassed myself greatly in front of. Apparently she found my awkward and bumbling attempt quite becoming after all!
Do you keep in touch with your childhood friends? Most of my childhood friends were my siblings and yes I do indeed keep in contact with them as often as I can.
Where is your favorite "Vacation" spot? When I find that I need to get away from the pressures of the court I travel to Ireland.
