Viola De Luca

The lovely gypsy, ViolaName Given at Birth: Viola De Luca

Nicknames: Vivi, Violet

Hometown or where you were born: I am told that I was born in Eastern Europe.

Current Residence: Wherever the road leads us.

Age: 19

Class: Gypsy

What do you do, your main function in life/society: Perform from dawn to dusk.

Have you ever gone skinny-dipping / do you know how to swim: When one bathes do they not also skinny dip?

Do you make fun of people: All of the time! Whenever the occasion arises I make it my duty to mock, jest and poke fun on others behalf. Mostly it is Adonis or Scarfs-Alotta(Scarletta).

Favorite Color: violet for it is the prettiest color, and of course my name. It also holds a special semblance with my family; it is a very spiritual colour.

Have you ever committed or been convicted of a crime: Yes…well…I still think I was wrongly accused…the guard’s coin purse just happened to fall into my palm.

Closest friends/How did you meet:

One Pillow or two: Theodosia, Scarletta and I share two pillows amongst ourselves. It depends on whoever gets to the vardo first. Usually it is Scarletta but, I end up taking them from her when she is asleep.

Pets: I once had a chicken named Scraps…but we ate it for dinner.

Favorite Type of Music: I love the sound of gypsy violin, but nature has the best music.

Hobbies/Pastimes: Sleeping, performing, telling stories, and playing tricks on unsuspecting Gaji.

Personal Hygiene: I bathe often. Esmarelda insists that we cannot perform for the gaji smelling like animals.

Favorite Food: Baklava and most sweets. Anything that Scarletta doesn’t prepare. I once gifted the Vulgarians with some baklava , I do hope that they enjoyed it.

Are your parents alive, do you get along with them: I never knew my parents; I was taken in by an old gypsy woman who took care of me until she could do so no longer. I then joined the Troupe Festival.

If your parents are dead, when and how did they die: My parents died when I was very young and I do not know the details, I am told it was far too horrible to speak of and I must focus my attention on the future.

Favorite place to relax: At night I like to lie outside and stare up at the stars. It is very peaceful.

Favorite Holy Day / Why: My day of birth, for I can be the center of attention, and I do not have to do chores.

Favorite Drink: warm cider and exotic juices.

What's your bedtime: After the revel ends…unless I still have chores to do.

What, if anything, do you usually wear on your feet: The slippers I dance in and a pair of boots that I "borrowed" from a merchant in Greece.

Are you married or single: I am far too busy with performing to even be concerned with such matters.

Do you have a family / who are they: The Troupe Festival is my family. I have one brother named Xavier who I have not seen in sometime though.

Favorite Entertainment: Playing tricks on the Gaji. Dancing at gypsy revels.

Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up: Collecting spices and herbs for our meals, it gives me a chance to be alone.

Least Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up: Picking up after Adonis, he is such a messy gypsy!

Favorite Sport: throwing rocks at Adonis, making him dance.

Most Humiliating Moment: We were performing for monarchs in Bavaria and Scarletta tripped me. I fell off the stage ripping my skirt and breaking my tambourine. I landed right in the King’s lap spilling his ale and causing quite a commotion…needless to say, we were banned from ever performing in Bavaria ever again.

Proudest Moment: I found a bag of coin on the streets one day, no… I did not steal it! I found it and we were able to get new supplies for our vardos.

Craziest Person or silliest you know: Adonis, he never seems to run out of ridiculous ideas or idiotic remarks.

What do you look for in the opposite sex: The must have no fleas, be easy to talk to, and always ready for adventure.

In our Hierarchical Society everybody has somebody "over" them, who is your immediate "overlord" Esmarelda and Adonis

Favorite Sport to watch: the joust, such courage, passion and danger. It echoes our lifestyle.

Do you remember your first kiss: I was running errands for Madame Xenia, the old gypsy woman I lived with, and I tripped over a tree root. Well this charming young lad by the name of Oliver helped me up and carried me to the apothecary’s; to have my knee examined. As thanks for his kindness I gave him a kiss. Although we left that town the very next day and I never heard from him again.

Do you keep in touch with your childhood friends: No, we travel far too much to keep in touch with my childhood friends.

Where is your favorite "Vacation" spot: There was a small costal town on the Adriatic Sea that I visited as a small child.

Have you ever been overseas: Yes, the troupe has traveled far and wide.

Do you have Dirt/Mud floors or Stone: The floors of the vardo are made of wood. I sleep outside often because Theodosia talks in her sleep.

What is your bed made of: Straw and goose down. I also share a large blanket with Theodosia and Scarletta.

How many people sleep in your bed: Three.
