Adonis

The Gypsy AdonisName Given at Birth: Adonis

Nicknames: The Adonis or A God

Hometown or where you were born: I am not sure where I was born, but I have been told I come from somewhere in Greece.

Current Residence: My current residence is Canterbury, but mostly it is where ever my short vardo takes the troupe and me.

Age: I am also not sure of how old I am. It has been said to me that I am somewhere around 20 maybe mid 20. I always forget.

Class: I am a gypsy of course.

What do you do, your main function in life/society: My main function is to entertain, dance, and be loved by many.

Have you ever gone skinny-dipping / do you know how to swim: Yes, I know how to swim. When I do swim I am usually nude for this is my bathing time as well. However, I do love to watch certain people swim. Specifically, one from my troupe who will remain name less, but her best friend Xavier always seems to interrupt.

Do you make fun of people: Yes, I do. It is only with those that I have developed a relationship with though. Some that I do play words with are my sister, Adonia, Xavier, and Martino.

Favorite Color: I love gold, silver, and green. Gold because it is the color of coins, silver because it is the color of coins, and green because it is the color of my eyes.

Have you ever committed or been convicted of a crime: NO!!! I did not do it, no one saw me do it, and you cannot prove I was there. That lady gave her coins to me willingly, and she said she was not married.

Closest friends/How did you meet: I have many close friends, mainly those within my Troupe. First, there is my sister, Adonia. She will always be my best friend to the end. We are twins by birth and have never been separated until now. I do miss her so. My other really close friend is Sapphira. She is like the mother a lot of us never really had. I can share my feelings and thoughts with her. She knows almost all of my most highly kept secrets. We met through Troupe Festivale when Esmerelda brought her in. At first we did not talk much, but after Sapphira saw me one day watching a certain gypsy swim we have never stopped talking.

One Pillow or two: Depends on where I fall asleep. Sometimes it is many pillows, but there are other times in which there are none.

Pets: I have no pets. I do, however, feel that all the animals of the land are kind of my pets since we both live outside. I do have a strong love for wolves. I feel a kind of bond when I see a wild wolf or at night listening to their howls.

Favorite Type of Music: Ah the music of the nightly revels is what I crave. The beating of the gypsy drums to the sounds of harmony coming from a gypsy violin is what sets my blood a fire. No where else could hear a better guitar being played that at the Troupe Festivale revels.

Hobbies/Pastimes: I love to dance. My dancing is by far the best in all the lands. I do love to woo and tempt the ladies as well. I have one gypsy lady that I have had my eye on for quite sometime. There is another in my Troupe who knows of my secret feeling towards this gypsy. There are times which one might find me staring at her beauty, and other times which we are teasing each other.

Personal Hygiene: As I have stated above, it is my swimming in streams, lakes, and rivers that I take time to bath. I must stay clean and smell fresh. The good people would not pay or stay to be entertained if the could smell us coming miles away. Plus, the ladies of the towns would not talk to one with such a foul smell.

Favorite Food: I love the fresh smell and mouth melting tastes of Sapphira’s meat pies. Although, I would also eat anything prepared by beautiful ladies. I am not picky when it comes to food.

Are your parents alive, do you get along with them: My parents are not alive. My twin sister killed them during child birth. She was a very big baby and took up most of the room in our mother’s stomach. Since she was so large, I was born first and malnourished. When my sister finally came, the torment and pain my mother went through to push her out was so unbearable it killed her. This did not happen before she killed our father by strangling him to death from all of the suffering she was going through. Therefore, I have never really had a chance to get along with my parents.

If your parents are dead, when and how did they die: I told you already that my sister killed them during child birth.

Favorite place to relax: It was this one time occurrence. One revel might, Esmerelda and I were dancing and drinking the night away after a wonderful day of entertainment and much coin making. I cannot remember how or why but we both collapsed into each other and fell down. That night we lay next to each other and whispered our ideas and dreams to each other under the stars above. Eventually, we fell asleep in each other’s arms. That was by the most relaxing place I have ever experienced.

Favorite Holy Day / Why: I must say my favorite is Harvest Festivale in Canterbury. It is a day in which we make lots of coin and entertain many patrons. Plus, that night we revel like never before. The food is in abundance and the music is no stop until day breaks.

Favorite Drink: I do enjoy the ale from local village taverns.

What's your bedtime: When the revel ends is when I lay down to rest for the night. Sometimes I fall asleep when I collapse from shear exhaustion because of all the days and nights entertainment. There have been some nights I received no sleep.

What, if anything, do you usually wear on your feet: I do wear leather boots, But my boots have been worn so much that I have two holes on the bottom, one hole in each boot, from all of the dancing.

Are you married or single: I have not found the one I would spend the rest of my life with. But I have a feeling she could be very close.

Do you have a family / who are they: I do have a family, but they are not your normal family. We are not of relation, but a Troupe. First there is my sister, Adonia. We have been together since our birth. She is my one true best friend even though we don’t act like it. Next is Sapphira. She is the mother to our Troupe. She really knows how to cook. Plus, she believes she has the gift of second site. Everyone in the Troupe knows better. Then there is Marlaina. She is very much like me. Always wanting coin (She gets hers through men though). Following in Marlaina’s footsteps we have Scarletta. She is a very passionate gypsy who has a fire burning deep within her. She believes she is the most beautiful gypsy in our Troupe, but the fact is that I am the most comely gypsy. Viola pretends to be as innocent as a flower however I know the truth. She tends to copy those around her. She is always stealing property that is not hers like pillows. She joins Xavier in throwing rocks. She basically will do anything if she sees someone else do it. Theodosia is the crazy scary one of the Troupe. She may seem small and harmless, but this is far fro the truth. She is the most mischievous of us all, but none of the Troupe believes me. I have heard she hides and knife on her thigh. Next we have Xavier. He is our expert carpenter and the hardest working gypsy in our Troupe. He has a beautiful voice that can steal any ladies heart. Our newest member of the Troupe is Martino Boleyn. He came to us when Esmerelda returned from a trip at the request of the Maestro. He has been with us for quite some time. We are good friends and share a strong passion for dancing. He is almost as good as me. There are still some things I can teach him to make him better. He not quite as good as I am at wooing the ladies either. He is also the oldest of Bolyen boys and knows how to work hard. Lantos is one of our musicians. He plays the gypsy guitar. His picking and strumming are beyond compare. He is the quite one of all the gypsies and perhaps the laziest too. He is always sitting. Nadia is our flutiest. A very close bond between her and Sapphira has been made. Perhaps it is because Nadia and Sapphira can both play the drums as well. Overall, Nadia is our most musical gypsy and helps all of us with expressing ourselves musically. Second to last is Txeru, our gypsy violinist. Never before have I ever fallen in love with an instrument. His music brings our spirits and dance to new heights. He is our tallest member and eats the most of all of us. I cannot imagine where it goes for he is so very skinny. Many patrons ask if we are not feeding him. Finally, there is La Esmerelda. She is the one who is most cunning, beautiful, and magnificent dancer of our Troupe. She can steal your coin and jewels while entertaining you. One can compare or even compete with her skill as a gypsy. As far as where we come from, that is a long story. We have all arrived on one Troupe over the past few years. We come from many different towns and villages. It is truly sad that not all of us could make it to the Harvest Festivale this year. That is my family I am apart of as of now. Although being a gypsy this family is always changing day to day. So who knows who might leave or become a new member of my family tomorrow.

Favorite Entertainment: I must say I love to watch myself dance. I do enjoy it greatly when there is a mirror present on stages where I perform.

Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up: I always love talking about myself. Overall, I must say my favorite chore is getting the water for the Troupe. It always seems to happen that we run out of water when someone has gone to take a swim.

Least Favorite Subject in School or Chore growing up: Pulling the short vardo because my mule is dead. I use to have a mule named Flavian. One day we were traveling down a steep hill, and that vardo started to pick up speed. The mule was not prepared for such a fast trip down the hill. Well, the vardo ended up rolling over top of my mule killing it instantly. Xavier, Martino, and I fixed the vardo enough to get us to the next town. Although, since we had no mule to pull the vardo, I ended up having to pull the vardo the rest of the way into town.

Favorite Sport: I do love a good dance competition. Xavier, Martino and I compete against each other constantly. I have beaten Xavier many times, but I must say that Martino is very good. I have beaten Martino a few times. (Maybe this was because I made sure he had plenty to drink before we competed.)

Most Humiliating Moment: It was our last night in a town, and we were having a revel to celebrate our day. We made lots of coin for our next travel, and we had everything ready to go for the next day’s travels. This was also the best camp we have ever had. There was a nice fire and our vardos circled around our fire. We had also set this camp up near the shore of a beautiful lake. Well, Xavier and Viola were playing their usual game of throwing rocks at Martino and I. Martino and I believe it is because Xavier is jealous of our skills as gypsy dancers. Little did they know Martino and I had a plan. We let the first few rocks fly by. We decided early that night that we were going to get them back with a taste of their own game. So we signaled each other it was time to act. We whirled around one by one and caught one of their rocks they threw without them knowing. We both then whirled again and threw our rocks right back at them. Martino’s rock hit Xavier right between the eyes. My rock was not so lucky. The rock flew right between them and hit Esmerelda in the head as she was walking along the shore. She then fell into the lake. I ran to her throwing off all my clothes, I had just cleaned them that morning, while everyone was laughing at me. I jumped into the water swimming after her. When I got to where she was at she was not there. I thought the worst had happened. I dove down into the water to search for her. It felt like I was out there for an eternity. Until I here this loud whistle from camp. She had swum under water some distance away. The entire Troupe was watching me swim naked in the cold water searching for her when she was okay the whole time.

Proudest Moment: The first time I ever beat Martino at our friendly little game of dancing. Of course it was very late and he had drank a lot of ale before we even started.

Craziest Person or silliest you know: Theodosia is the craziest person I know. I tell you this but know one in the Troupe believes me about this. She has done many things and has involved me I in the process. One time we were gathering food from a farmer’s field. This farmer had the weirdest looking scarecrow. As I approached it holding pumpkins and corn in my arms, I swear I saw the scarecrow move. I thought must have been the wind. Then the next thing I know is that the scarecrow is running towards me. The craziest thing is that the scarecrow is also carrying a scythe. I start running and screaming for my troupe to come quick. I drop all of the food I was carrying by the time I got back to camp. When I go there I was so out of breath that I could not explain what had happened. All of sudden Theodosia comes walking up with all this food. I see her walk past me with some straw sticking out the back of her dance scarf. She had taken all the food I had dropped and presented it as her own. She even told them I was being lazy and making her do all the work while I sleep.

What do you look for in the opposite sex: She must be strong of heart and mind with her hair like wild fire and eyes a blue as the sea. She is one that could dance your heart away in an instant and with a voice that softens the hardest of hearts. She must have a body that of course is fit cause she is one of the best dancers around, next to me of course. Her body must also be one that I could lay and hold onto for an eternity.

In our Hierarchical Society everybody has somebody "over" them, who is your immediate "overlord": God of course is my true overlord. Then there is the Maestro and the Mary Widow. These two are the ones that have brought us to Canterbury for the Harvest Festivale. I like them very much. They have always treated us well and given us plenty of work that has paid very well.

Favorite Sport to watch: I love the watch Martino woo women. It is actually a game between us as well. It is always quite funny to see him try to woo when it is clear to me whom she in fact is interested in.

Do you remember your first kiss: I sadly do not remember my first kiss. I have traveled to so many towns and entertained so many patrons. I have lost count and cannot remember whom I have kissed. There have been some towns that I have gone to that a lady would walk up to me and slap me. This I don’t understand because I have just arrived in town.

Do you keep in touch with your childhood friends: No, I do not. I was orphaned fro birth with my sister. Therefore, I really do not have any childhood friends. My sister is my closest friend, and I see her on a daily basis.

Where is your favorite "Vacation" spot: I love the beach. It does not matter what beach it is. That is my favorite vacation spot. I love the sound of the water hitting the sand and the feel of the sand between my toes. How I miss the open seas.

Have you ever been overseas: Of course I am a gypsy. I have traveled many places across lands and seas.

Do you have Dirt/Mud floors or Stone: I have mud/dirt and wooden floors. I am a gypsy so I spend a lot of time outside. Sometimes if it is raining I get stuck inside my vardo.

What is your bed made of: My bed is made of mud/dirt, wood, straw, or goose down. It depends on the company I am with.

How many people sleep in your bed: That depends as well on who I am with that night. I am a gypsy as I have said many times. We are all family and are all very close.

10 Things Everybody Should Know About Me:

1. I have a twin sister, Adonia. She is not with me this year at the Harvest Festivale. She did not wish to attend this year. Therefore, Xavier and her stayed behind in the last town where we will collect them on our travels back when the Festivale is over.

2. Theodosia is the crazy one of the gypsy troupe. I try to tell my companions about her mischievous ways. None of the believe me. She is always getting me into situations when it is clearly her doing.

3. Xavier and Viola have a game of throwing rocks at Martino and I while we dance at revels. They think we don’t know about this game and that it is not them doing it. Overall, Martino and I know that they really are jealous of my chiseled chin and the fact that Martino and I are the best gypsy dancers. Little do they know that I am going to get the back for their little game. I have a plan that only Sapphira and I know about.

4. I have had my eye on a gypsy in purple ever since I have laid my eyes on her. She is the most beautiful gypsy I have ever seen. I watch her fiery hair flowing around as she dances with her hips shaking to the beat of the drums stirring my heart and thoughts. Sapphira has told me that one day we would be together, but what does she know.

5. Lord Robert Dudley has heard of Esmerelda. I heard this from a close gypsy friend of mine. He is said to be planning to have a special show performed by Esmerelda. I am not too excited about this idea. There is something familiar about Lord Dudley that reminds me of a Captain of the Guards a few towns back. I am going to have to some how prevent this show from occurring.

6. Scarletta thinks she is the prettiest gypsy of all. This is simply not true. Everyone knows that I, Adonis, am the one true beautiful gypsy.

7. I am the true leader of Troupe Festivale. I am the most comely, the best dancer, and most of all I am a trainer of acrobatics. That is my specialty being able to do tricks in the air.

8. Before leaving Canterbury, I will have in my possession a new vardo and more matches. I will never again pull my own vardo from town to town. Plus, having four matches a year is not going to work for me anymore.

9. Marlaina and I have kissed before. I was in my vardo looking for my favorite pair of zills. Hen Marlaina comes in and confesses her love for me. She then catches me by surprise and kisses me. Next thing I know Martino opens the vardo door and show Esmerelda, who was standing right by him us kissing. I hurry after Esmerelda to explain what had happened when she turns and slaps me. Finally, Marlaina walks up to me and slaps me as well right after Esmerelda.

10. I do know how to read and write. My sister and I were taught at the orphanage where we stayed until we were discovered by our first gypsy troupe.
